FREE BEER & TOOL Review

Week 2 Update
Week 1 was a resounding success, the worry I had due to the start times was quickly overcome. A great turnout, a great time, a Vikings win. The greatness of Free Beer was in mid season swing. Megan was the bartender, back again, her talent was second to none. Diane made an appearance as a customer. Oh the greatness of FREE BEER. The two first quarters went off without a hitch, most kept it pretty tame, with a 3 hour break between them, that is for the best.

Tonight the kickoff is at 7:30, half hour earlier then previous years. My arrival will be an hour prior or so.

For the sake of Full Disclosure. I am not a fan of Tool. I like Maynard, fan of Perfect Circle, like the “greatest hits” of Tool, but not a show I would be willing to spend $70 on, I do not have the attention span for epic 15 minute insturmentals. Well Tool was in town this past Saturday, a sold out show at the Target Center. I was downtown for cocktails with Notorious L I N Z, K Dog and Nick. We were having drinks at NBA City because we figured we could get in there, Tool fans do not like Basketball, not enough Tats or Mohawks. I was convinced to try and scalp and was able to take advantage of a dim witted tool fan and got a Floor ticket for $30. Well the show started off great, heavy, LOUD (too loud if you ask me, these kids are going to lose their hearing and I am old). Tool is not a concert in the traditional sense, they do not talk to the audience, they do not interact, it is much closer to Performance Art then anything, and from that standpoint of Art, meaning kind of cool, kind of Painful, but interesting, Tool was a success and worth about $31 to me. That being said, I was so boroed during their EPIC songs heavy on instrumentals. The light show was second to none, would have been the greatest light show ever if I had been dropping acid or trippin on 8 ball. They are amazingly talented, the critics like them, but not an easy concert to take in. Also, the drummer for Tool has taken over the title as “hardest working man in show business”, the drummer from QOTSA was the previous holder.
