Free Beer is what we all live for. Beer by itself causes great happiness, but when it is FREE, truly sublime. Sally's at the U (there is only one U) offers no strings attached FREE BEER every Monday night during the Football season. God Speed To Free Beer

Green Day Fargo & Mpls Review

I was lucky enough to attend the Green Day show in Fargo, and then scalped (for half face) for the Saturday show in Mpls. This will be a quick, review, what I will do. I will cut and paste my review of their show Sept. 16th, 2005, which is nicely saved at http://godspeedtofreebeer.blogspot.com there are review of concerts from 03 out there (middle of Nov 2005). Uff Da.

Fargo, The crowd was a tad rough, Billy Jo whipped (almost literally) them into shape. He can work a crowd like no other. What is amazing, Fargodome beer vendors. Everywhere, tons of people working, sold beer until the very end. $5 for a 24 ounce beer.

Mpls, The crowd was much better, larger, more into it. A big reason I wanted to hit for the first time two consecutive nights of the same band was to compare the nights. I wanted to see how Billy Jo would react with a good crowd, with his wife's family there, how the set list compare, etc. What I am surprised at. I preferred the Fargo show, I liked seeing him work harder to make the crowd better. Green Day does not know how to phone it in (think Killers or Rob Zombie), they only know how to have a great time. Tgt Center Beer. $7.50 for a bottle, beer vendors closed with 45 minutes to go. Boo.

Ok, here is the review from their show in Sept. It is what I would have written this time around too. Kind of funny looking back at this.

9/16 2005 Green Day Review

As many of you are aware, I have my rules when it comes to concerts. They have to care where they are, they need to play for 90 minutes or more, basically they better kick ass. Well Green Day must be a regular on the Matt concert review emails; they knew exactly how to put on a GREAT show. This was PURE Arena Rock and Roll. We had explosions, Fire, Confetti, Water Canon’s, a light show, great stage gamesmanship. They had people from the audience play a song on stage for cripes sake. It was PURE FUN. Billie Joe is a Showman. They brought the rule of mentioning the city they are in to a new level. He mentioned some version of the twin cities 4 times…..DURING THE FIRST SONG. He mentioned Dinkytown…If he would have mentioned 35W (my goal since starting to attend concerts) I would have peed. He does own a house here and met his wife in Dinkytown so that does help.

Only concerns were that the show was very choreographed and well planned out, which did not take away from any of the pure enjoyment. 2 HOURS 15 Minutes. Not the best concert I have ever been to (NIN) but maybe the most fun I have had. Jimmy Eat World was very good. Only 30 minutes but got the job done.

Soapbox-Parents and the media seem to have a problem with Green Day’s language. Well they can F off. This is a former PUNK ROCK band that has a parental advisory on their CD’s. I like how Billie Joe mixes the F bomb into all his conversation. He is an F bomb master. If parents and the media cannot get past this, then maybe a 7 yr old should not be at this show, they should be working in sweat shops or waiting outside a local bar in the car alone for Dad to get done with his booze.

Flogging Molly Review

I have had a rough stretch of concerts as of late, I had to get back into the swing of things and there is no better band to remind a person how great live music is then Flogging Molly. Mark and I attended a late starting show at the Myth in Maplehood. Packed. Myth, even though it is in the boonies, is a good venue for live music, strong site lines and accoustics, holds ~3500.

Now the show, I challenge anyone to tell me of a band that plays to the crowd more then Flogging Molly. Great interaction, they even poke fun at some. Each song gets a discription and the name, each member of the band works their ass off. Great energy. Other bands should be required on attending a FM show to learn how performing live is done. They played for a solid hour 45.

Farewell

Sweet FREE BEER

Where it began, I can't begin to know when
But then I know it's growing strong
Oh, wasn't the spring, whooo
And Monday became Monday Night Football
Who'd believe you'd come along

Beer, Drinking Beer, reaching out
Touching me, touching you
Oh, sweet FREE BEER
Good times never seem so good
I've been inclined to believe it never would

Oh, one, Drinking Beer, reaching out
Touching me, touching you
Oh, Sweet Free Beer
Good times never seem so good
Oh I've been inclined to believe it never would

Ohhh, sweet Free Beer, good times never seem so good
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In honor of the last week of Free Beer of the season. Bullwinkle’s always ends the night with Sweet Caroline, it is thus fitting that we end the season and dare I say. End of Free Beer emails? This may be the retirement, this may be it. I am pulling a Brett Favre on this and as of now, this is it. Will they be back next year? We will see. It is good to go out on top.

Another good year of Free Beer, the attendance was sparse from time to time, we had some good weeks and some great times. The bartenders came around, we still had the best door man in the business. Again, we thank Sally’s for their continued support of Free Beer.

Tonight I have a work dinner until right before kickoff so my arrival will be closer to 7:30.

In Memorium

BEER

Can't you see I'm easily bothered by Non Free Beer Attendace
One step from lashing out at you...
You want in to get under my skin
And call yourself a friend
I've got more friends like you
What do I do?

Is there no Free Beer anymore?
What it takes, who I am, where I've been
Belong
You can't be something you're not
Be yourself, by yourself
Stay away from me
A lesson learned in life
Known from the dawn of time

Free, Beer, walk, what did you say??
Free, Beer, walk, are you Drinking with me???
Are you Drinking with me??

Free, Beer, walk, what did you say??
Free, Beer, walk, are you Drinking with me???

Are you Drinking With me??

No way punk

Are you Drinking With me?
Walk on home boy

In memory of the 4 year anniversary of Dimebag Darrell’s death. A legend in the music world and a big deal to many of my age group.

Slow week last week, this week is a good game, my arrival will be ~6:30.

All the single Beers

All the single Beers
All the single Beers
All the single Beers
All the single Beers

Now put your hands up For The Toast
Up in Sally’s, we just broke up
I’m doing my own little thing
Decided to dip but now you wanna trip
Cuz another Bartender noticed me

Cuz if you liked it then you should have put a Free Beer on it
If you liked it then you shoulda put a Free Beer on it
Don’t be mad once you see that he want it
If you liked it then you shoulda put a Free Beer on it
Free, Free, Free
Beer, Beer, Beer

I got Free Beer on my lips, 30 Cent Wings on my hips
Got me tighter than my Dereon jeans
acting up, drink in my cup
I could care less what you think
I need no permission, did I mention
Dont pay Stub n Herbs any attention
Cuz you had your turn
But now you gonna learn
What it really feels like to miss Free Beer

Don’t treat me to the things of this world
I’m not that kind of Beer
Your love is what I prefer, what I deserve
Is a man that makes me, then takes me
And delivers me to a destiny, to infinity and beyond
Pull me into your arms
Say I’m the one you want
If you don’t, you’ll be alone
And like a ghost I’ll be gone

All the single Beers
All the single Beers
All the single Beers
All the single Beers
Now put your hands up
Free, Free, Free
Beer, Beer, Beer

Really strong week last week, a great turnout, the Packer game helped with that, let’s try and keep the party going this week. As an FYI, there is a Gopher Womens game tonight, but it is against some no name school, so I do not expect big problems

November FREE BEER

When I Walk Into Your Bar
I can see a Tap restrained
But darlin' when I Drink you
Don't you know I feel the same

Nothin' lasts forever
And we both know Taps can change
And it's hard to hold a candle
In the cold November FREE BEER

We've been through this such a long long time
Just tryin' to kill the pain

But Monday’s always come and Monday’s always go
An no one's really sure who's lettin' go today
Walking away

So if you want to Drink me
then darlin' don't refrain
Or I'll just end up walkin'
In the cold November Free Beer

And when First Quarter subside
And shadows still remain
I know that you can Drink me
When there's no one left to blame
So never mind the darkness
We still can find a way

Nothin' lasts forever
Even cold November FREE BEER

Dug through the archives and had only done one GnR song in the past (welcome to free beer) a while back, not going to lie, some good oldies in there, I even use to rant on about things, pretty funny stuff.
Big game this week, it is Packer week, so there will be a good crowd so seats could be at a premium. My arrival will be ~6:15.
