Coldplay Review 9/20/05

Boy am I on a roll for concerts. White Stripes=Brilliant Talent, Green day=Great Fun. Now Coldplay????? People are going to think I do not say anything negative? Well I still think the Killers are a bunch of Whores if that helps. This weekend is U2 and SOAD, well I am missing both for a wedding (which has free booze, so booze wins over concerts). I feel that I do not even need to see these shows after the quality of the Coldplay show last night. Coldplay may not ever be the next U2, but Chris Martin has the same stage presence as Bono any day of the week. Great simple stage with an amazing light show. They utilized fancy beach balls during “yellow” and bursted into glitter. Sounds gay, but it was cool as hell. Great video backdrop. Great shift from Big Band Rock to small show quant. Great chemistry with the crowd. Almost two full hours of great songs. Chris Martin made every effort to make sure the entire crowd got their money’s worth. Sang a song from the sound stage so everyone can get a better view.

Johnny Cash is getting a lot of airtime at concerts this year. Cover of Ring of Fire for Coldplay, numerous covers and mentions from Flogging Molly. Jack White mentioned him. I have a great hole in my concert repertoire due to my lack of having seen the Man in Black live.

Soapbox-Life is short people. Attending concerts is not easy, they can be expensive, ticketmaster is a greater devil then Karl Rove, but boy when you see some great shows it is one hell of a good time. So turn off Desperate Housewives, get a babysitter, call some friends and get your ass out to a concert. We have U2, SOAD, NIN, Audioslave, Foo Fighters and Hansen (kidding, but I bet they are still better live then Killers) all in the next many weeks. We are lucky to live so close to so many quality shows. I cannot remember the last time U2 played Larimore.
