Green Day Fargo & Mpls Review
I was lucky enough to attend the Green Day show in Fargo, and then scalped (for half face) for the Saturday show in Mpls. This will be a quick, review, what I will do. I will cut and paste my review of their show Sept. 16th, 2005, which is nicely saved at http://godspeedtofreebeer.blogspot.com there are review of concerts from 03 out there (middle of Nov 2005). Uff Da.
Fargo, The crowd was a tad rough, Billy Jo whipped (almost literally) them into shape. He can work a crowd like no other. What is amazing, Fargodome beer vendors. Everywhere, tons of people working, sold beer until the very end. $5 for a 24 ounce beer.
Mpls, The crowd was much better, larger, more into it. A big reason I wanted to hit for the first time two consecutive nights of the same band was to compare the nights. I wanted to see how Billy Jo would react with a good crowd, with his wife's family there, how the set list compare, etc. What I am surprised at. I preferred the Fargo show, I liked seeing him work harder to make the crowd better. Green Day does not know how to phone it in (think Killers or Rob Zombie), they only know how to have a great time. Tgt Center Beer. $7.50 for a bottle, beer vendors closed with 45 minutes to go. Boo.
Ok, here is the review from their show in Sept. It is what I would have written this time around too. Kind of funny looking back at this.

9/16 2005 Green Day Review
As many of you are aware, I have my rules when it comes to concerts. They have to care where they are, they need to play for 90 minutes or more, basically they better kick ass. Well Green Day must be a regular on the Matt concert review emails; they knew exactly how to put on a GREAT show. This was PURE Arena Rock and Roll. We had explosions, Fire, Confetti, Water Canon’s, a light show, great stage gamesmanship. They had people from the audience play a song on stage for cripes sake. It was PURE FUN. Billie Joe is a Showman. They brought the rule of mentioning the city they are in to a new level. He mentioned some version of the twin cities 4 times…..DURING THE FIRST SONG. He mentioned Dinkytown…If he would have mentioned 35W (my goal since starting to attend concerts) I would have peed. He does own a house here and met his wife in Dinkytown so that does help.
Only concerns were that the show was very choreographed and well planned out, which did not take away from any of the pure enjoyment. 2 HOURS 15 Minutes. Not the best concert I have ever been to (NIN) but maybe the most fun I have had. Jimmy Eat World was very good. Only 30 minutes but got the job done.
Soapbox-Parents and the media seem to have a problem with Green Day’s language. Well they can F off. This is a former PUNK ROCK band that has a parental advisory on their CD’s. I like how Billie Joe mixes the F bomb into all his conversation. He is an F bomb master. If parents and the media cannot get past this, then maybe a 7 yr old should not be at this show, they should be working in sweat shops or waiting outside a local bar in the car alone for Dad to get done with his booze.
Attendee’s: Notorious LINZ, Drunk Nick, Me (scalped floor for face)
