Free Beer @ 7:30 & RHCP Review

Free Beer last week was good as always, the quarter went fast, which was probably good due to how BAD the Vikings are. BAD. Attendance was good in all aspects except for people from BBY. We had 1 person from BBY (me), that is the same amount as people who work at an Apple Orchard, or as a Teacher, or Civil Engineer. There are 43 BBY people on this email and we had ONE person? This was my third time going to a RHCP show. The first time was horrible (kiedis was high as a kite and even called out how bad that mpls show was in his autobiography), the second time was AMAZING. This time? Great stage show. Just great. One of the best I have seen. They played for a tad over 2 hours. But how was the show? Good. Not great. They showed their age, they needed a nap, Flea and Kiedis just plain were tired. This translated to the very young audience, just not enough energy. The show should have been called the John Frusciante with RHCP, he completely dominated the show, it was not about the band, it was all about John’s guitar, he does play a mean guitar, but the overall vibe and energy just was not what I have come to expect from RHCP. Their set list was decent, they did play Don’t forget me from By the Way which was a highlight, but it also concentrated too much on the first disk of Stadium Arcadia, which is just average. Not much for fan interaction, a quick callout to Minnesota, a good thank you prior to the encore from Flea. Speaking of the encore. Started hot, then ENDED with a 20 MINUTE jam session. The whole show had way to much by the way of jam sessions, but ending the show with 20 minutes, no Kiedis, the members of Mars Volta, playing loud guitar for 20 minutes. Very disappointing. If I want to see a jam session I will go to DMB or Phish. They ended the night thanking Mars Volta and basically explained to the audience that they are great musicians and we as fans should ignore the fact that Mars Volta is maybe the worst live act in history.
